You Sell the Shortcut

By Dean Waye · October 19, 2026

In B2B the customer knows their negative present. It's rare to meet a company that has to be educated into the fact that it has a problem. They almost always know. That's why most B2B selling happens after the prospect has done the majority of the research themselves.

And by knowing the negative present, they also know what the positive future would be. At a minimum, it's the removal of the negative present.

What they lack is the mechanism. They lack the bridge between the two. You're the bridge: you, your product, your company, your process, your technology, your idea. You are a shortcut company.

Your challenge is to be not just the better shortcut but, if you manage your messaging well, the only shortcut that makes sense.

Don't lean too heavily into the positive future. They already understand it. They don't need you to explain it. What they want is the shortcut, the mechanism, the process, the bridge. That's your job.

Your message should be tested before it's expensive.
